2017 Kia Niro Hybrid Chicago Auto Show

Kia teased us at the Detroit Auto Show with some images of the Niro, but we really had no idea what to expect from this new vehicle. An SUV Hybrid? Does that even make sense? Well now that the 2017 Kia Niro Hybrid made its Chicago Auto Show debut, we can say that yes, it all makes perfect sense now! This vehicle is set on providing a fun to drive, spacious, and relaxing hybrid, the likes of which many of us have never seen before!

2017 Kia Niro Hybrid Design

As we speculated about when we first saw the teaser images of the vehicle, the 2017 Niro does look a little bit like the newly redesigned 2017 Kia Sportage. The front tiger nose grill and swooping headlights give us the familiar impression, but there are some glaring differences as well. The Niro is a bit more compact and is more of a crossover-esque vehicle than the Sportage is. The HUV is also lower to the ground, which we expect will help it provide a more exciting, entertaining drive.

Technology at Every Corner

One area that the 2017 Kia Niro Hybrid is certainly not lacking in is advanced technology. We can see that Kia’s design team has been hard at work trying to figure out how they can neatly package all of this advanced tech into the vehicle. In the end, it appears they did a very neat job, and the vehicle will have great features such as Kia UVO3, and a host of driver assist technologies.

Up To 50 MPG Combined!

Now this is a hybrid vehicle, so obviously the aspect that people care about the most is fuel economy. The 2017 Kia Niro Hybrid utilizes a powertrain that consists of a 1.6-liter GDI 4-cylinder engine, an electric motor, a 6-speed dual clutch transmission and a 1.56-kWh lithium ion polymer battery. Together, the system produces up to 146-horsepower, 195 lb.-ft of torque, and is shooting for a combined MPG of almost 50.

When Will It Go On Sale?

Even though the 2017 Kia Niro made its debut at the Chicago Auto Show, it will still be a while before the vehicle is available on our lot. We expect the Niro to arrive either by the end of the year or in early 2017. Give us a call if you have any other questions about the vehicle!
