When you are looking for an SUV, chances are you want to know what kind of engine you are getting. Does it have power and torque? Is it still fuel-efficient? If you are considering the Sorento, then we can answer those questions for you as we go over the 2017 Kia Sorento engine options right here.
Does the Sorento have a V6 engine?
People want power when they are looking for an SUV, and that is perfectly understandable. After all, you may be relying on your next SUV for a lot, and that’s where it’s good to know that the 2017 Kia Sorento delivers with a total of three impressive engine options, one of which is a 3.3-liter V6.
The V6 is the most easily identified engine of the group, as “V6” is included in the name of the trim level. That means the LX V6, EX V6, SX V6, and SXL V6 trims all have six cylinders roaring under their hoods. The V6 engine rounds out the top of the trim level lineup for the 2017 Sorento.
When it comes to power, the V6 engine can generate an impressive 290 horsepower making it the most powerful engine in the Sorento lineup. When it comes to torque, this V6 still puts on a show with 252 pound-feet of torque.

There is still a stigma surrounding four-cylinder engines when it comes to power, but you really need to let that notion slide. Even the entry-level L and LX Sorento trims come with a powerful 2.4-liter four-cylinder that produces 185 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque.
If you want a little more power, then consider the Sorento EX. This SUV sports a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that can generate up to 240 horsepower. The real impressive figure here though is the 260 pound-feet of torque that this powerplant has. That makes the EX the highest torque Sorento in the lineup.
