Can you burn leaves in Greensboro?
You are not allowed to burn leaves or have yard waste fires of any kind in the Greensboro city limits. Greensboro is not the only city in the area that prohibits this. You also cannot burn yard waste in High Point, Jamestown, or Gibsonville. One thing all of the cities provide is curbside yard waste collection. If you live in those areas, then let’s help you figure out how to get rid of that yard waste.
Yard Waste Collection in Guilford County
Greensboro – Yard waste is collected weekly on your garbage collection day. Bundle it together, can it, or bag it, but ensure that nothing weighs more than 50 pounds.
High Point – Yard waste is collected weekly on your garbage collection day. Only use clear plastic bags or an approved black yard waste can. Bundling can also be done. Nothing should exceed 50 pounds.
Jamestown – Yard waste is picked up Wednesdays and Thursdays. Crews begin Wednesday morning and continue into Thursday if necessary. Yard waste must be placed in clear plastic bags or empty cardboard boxes.
Gibsonville – Leaves are picked up via an automated leaf truck. Pile leaves within 10 feet of the curb and away from obstacles. Other yard waste can be left loose near the curb and is picked up on a biweekly basis.
What if you don’t live in the city?
If you live in Guilford County, but do not live within the city limits of Greensboro, High Point, Jamestown, or Gibsonville, then you can in fact burn leaves. You are limited in what you can burn with the leaves though. You are only allowed to burn leaves, plant growth, and branches under 4-inches in diameter. There are a few more restriction too.
You cannot burn when the air quality forecast is code orange, red, or purple. You can check what the current air quality forecast is in the Triad right here. If you are specifically burning yard waste, then any and all burning must take place between 10 AM and 4 PM. Finally, you may also need a permit from your local fire department.
