Kia has a habit for making new, interesting, and unique cars. First, they shook things up with the release of the still popular Soul, then they re-invigorated the compact crossover with the Niro, and now they are tackling the performance sedan. Learn about all the unique quirks of this performance sedan and also find an answer to the question: is the 2018 Kia Stinger a hatchback?

A performance sedan is pretty self-explanatory, but many manufactures have let this concept fall to the wayside. Kia is here to pick up the slack with the Stinger. With a fresh set of eyes on the case, Kia has made a lot of innovative changes.

For starters, though the Stinger looks like a traditional sedan, it’s actually a hatchback. The back pane of glass folds up with the trunk lid. This allowed Kia engineers to perfect the aerodynamics while still maximizing interior room and usability.

When will the Kia Stinger be available?

The Kia Stinger GT, with its twin-turbo V6 engine option, and all the power that goes along with it is capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph in as little as 4.7 seconds. Keep in mind that this is still a four-door sedan. How fast can it go though?

The Kia Stinger GT has a top speed of 167 mph! Now believe it or not, this is a quirk because this top speed is actually governed. That means once 167 mph is reached, the engine’s computer stops the car from going faster. What its true top speed is we may never know, but as most Stinger drivers will never take their cars out on the track, they will not have a reason to even test those limits.

With a system called Dynamic Stability Dampening Control, the Kia Stinger can adjust suspension stiffness on the fly. This also give you access to another Kia First, five different suspension modes. These modes include Custom, Eco, Sport, Comfort, and Smart.
