  1. Have your helper park their vehicle so that the hoods are near each other. 
  2. Pop the hood of each car and locate their respective batteries. You may need to remove a plastic cover to expose the battery terminals.
  3. Identify the positive and negative battery terminals.
  4. Connect the jumper cables in the following order – red clamp to the positive terminal on the dead battery; second red clamp to the positive terminal on the charged battery; black clamp to the negative terminal on the charged battery; and second black clamp to a grounded, unpainted metal surface.
  5. With all clamps securely in place, have your helper start their car.
  6. Wait a couple of minutes, and then try to start your car.
  7. Once the jump-start is successful, carefully remove the jumper cables in the reverse order of above.
  8. Keep your engine running on the jump-started vehicle for at least 10 minutes to recharge the battery.
